Our History

ParkerVision Inc. (NASDAQ:PRKR), founded in 1989, is engaged in the business of designing, developing, and commercializing its proprietary radio frequency (RF) technologies and products for use in semiconductor circuits for wireless communication products.

ParkerVision was originally established to focus on the development of broadcast automation and wireless camera tracking technologies for broadcast media. Over several years of research and product development, the company established a significant patent portfolio in the field of broadcast media technologies. Many successful products originated from these broadcast media patents.

Of even greater value was the development of a new approach to wireless communications that arose from efforts to bring wireless subsystems in-house. The implications of this research reached significantly beyond application in the broadcast media industry. ParkerVision management made the decision to reshape the company; selling its broadcast business assets and focusing all of its resources on bringing this wireless technology to market.

In 2003, the first products based on ParkerVision's wireless technology were released: a family of consumer Wi-Fi products that incorporated the company's proprietary RF receiver technology, Direct2Data™ (d2d™). This high performance product line exhibited the ability to acquire and maintain Wi-Fi communication links in the presence of signal interference and over large distances - far surpassing the performance of other available products and earning critical acclaim

In 2005, the company announced another wireless communications breakthrough addressing key shortcomings in the cellular communications industry. Direct2Power™ (d2p™) answers the need to reduce the power consumption of RF transmitters and power amplifiers and reduce the complexity of the RF system in phones requiring support of numerous next generation and legacy communication standards. Wireless products implementing d2p enjoy extended battery life and better performance than products utilizing traditional RF transmit chain solutions

In 2007, ParkerVision announced its first d2p design win with ITT. ParkerVision agreed to license its intellectual property (IP) to ITT for use in the government and military applications.

Later in 2007, ParkerVision established its second design win. The agreement conveys technology licenses for both d2p and d2d. Although the customer remains confidential to date, the initial application has been disclosed as a 3G handset in the high volume mobile handset market.

In 2008, ParkerVision signed a joint development and marketing agreement with LG Innotek. ParkerVision and LG Innotek have jointly specified a program that will utilize d2p in a multi-mode, multi-band single-chip module supporting GSM, EDGE, WCDMA and HSPA standards.
